I am a current student at Boston University studying Computer Science with a minor in Philosophy. I have an extensive history tutoring coding, math, writing, Chinese, and piano. I've tutored students from ages nine to twenty-two. Although I tutor a wide range of subjects, my favorites are coding (python and java) and writing/English. My goal is to make learning a positive and fun experience, while also making sure that the student learns as much as possible.

When I was young, I realized that I thought differently about Mathematics than my peers. I read the textbook and instantly understood it. Meanwhile, they struggled for hours. Seeing my childhood friends struggle in this way tugged on my heartstrings the same then as it does to see this struggle in my adult friends today.Because of this, I have developed a great passion for helping other people understand complex ideas. I have a strong belief that the best thing for a society is the spread of advanced critical thinking skills, so any learning assistance I can offer someone is doubly satisfying to me in that way.I studied for two years at Georgia Tech working towards a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, before having to withdraw for medical reasons. Through my work as a tutor, I intend to fund my return to collegiate education, although I am now interested in a degree more directly related to Mathematics.I enjoy tutoring many levels of Math, from basic Algebra all the way to mid-level Calculus. In fact, regardless of the topic at hand, I place a heavy emphasis on the importance of algebraic derivation, and understanding of Algebra in general. As they say, "Calculus is two steps of magic, and 30 steps of Algebra."

While I can't say that I loved waking up early, I loved working with my kids! After that I was hooked. Helping students feel brilliant was something I had to do every day!So, after I graduated from Howard University with a Bachelors in Business Administration, I received my Masters from Georgia State University in Early Childhood Education. I taught 5th grade math, science and writing. I then transitioned into working with struggling students in small group and coaching teachers. I love giving my teachers strategies to help students feel smart.While coaching teachers is my role, I never stopped tutoring because there's nothing like hearing my kids shout "Ohhhhh!" after doing math they never thought they could handle. I think most kids struggle in math because they think they can't memorize all the steps. I work hard to help students find strategies that make sense to them. When my students see that there are so many ways to get to the answer, they become mathematicians.When I'm not teaching, I am building towers or playing train sets with my toddler! We have a blast. I love singing. I prefer to be curled up with a good book over shopping. I enjoy dinner with friends or my husband. Game nights are my favorite. I try to understand the student's perspective as well as constantly maintain a positive learning environment. I am a firm believer in building a student's confidence. I developed personalized English language programs for Thai graduate-level students. When I returned to the United States, I taught refugee fifth grade boys in all subjects for a year. I have tutored middle school and high school students in Geometry, Algebra, Writing, and Chemistry. And I have tutored college students in Biology. For tutoring, I create personalized study strategies based on a student’s strength and weaknesses. I work interactively to encourage independence and critical thinking.
