Albuquerque IB Philosophy HL Tutoring FAQ
If you are a high school student who is participating in the International Baccalaureate, or IB, program, then you know how difficult and overwhelming courses can be. Even though this program is reserved for the most exceptional learners in an institution, it can still be a source of struggle for a number of bright, young minds. If you are one of the many students working towards your IB diploma, and you are finding it difficult to keep up with the pace of the course, you should consider working under the guidance of a private tutor. This is especially true if you are enrolled in an IB Philosophy course, as it covers a number of difficult concepts and requires a great deal of critical thinking.
As a student preparing for the higher-level IB Philosophy exam, you are likely scrambling to find the help that you need to do a superlative job on this rigorous test. No need to worry! Varsity Tutors can help you connect with an experienced and dedicated tutor in your area. Contact us today to discuss the IB Philosophy HL tutoring options available to you. No matter what the focus has been in your IB Philosophy HL course, we can help you select the ideal tutor to accommodate your needs. From the standard topics of analytic logic, epistemology, and ethics, to studies in the history of modern and contemporary philosophy and the intricacies of ancient and medieval philosophical texts and disputes, your IB Philosophy HL tutor will have a broad base of expertise to provide the preparation that you will need to pass.
The IB Philosophy HL exam will require significant critical thinking, and your philosophy tutor can serve as the perfect interlocutor for helping you sharpen your argumentation skills to meet the rigors of the IB exam. Just as Platonic wisdom was best expressed in dialogue form, and the scholastic dispute format served as the remote foundation of the modern university, the back-and-forth of student and tutor may prove to be the best method for preparing you for the varied essays of the IB exam. Your tutor can provide a comprehensive review of the objective content that will be examined, while challenging and further developing your abilities for critical thought and expression in preparation for the analytical essays.
Working with a philosophy tutor gives you the privilege of having a hands-on educational experience, where you can receive detailed explanations from someone knowledgeable of the field. As you continue to study with your private tutor, he or she will begin to take note of your strengths, weaknesses, preferred learning styles, and personality traits. Armed with this information, your tutor will be able to customize a learning plan that has been created especially for you.
Because private lessons are centered on you, it is important that you find the educational experience both convenient and comfortable. Your tutor is happy to meet with you anytime that is good for you, including nights and weekends. The student and I today began our discussion of the first text she is required to read for her abnormal psychology class. In the book, journalist Susan Sheehan followed a young woman with chronic undifferentiated schizophrenia through multiple episodes and hospitalizations. Together, the student and I went over unfamiliar terms and concepts, listed major characters, places, and dates from the book, and made an outline of the events in the first third of the book.
Today, we worked exclusively on preparing the student for her upcoming psychology test. The process was fairly straightforward. We went through each chapter and reviewed the key points, and then I took questions. She seemed to understand the vast majority of the material, and I'm quite confident she will do very well on the test. Overall, the session went extremely well.
The student and I are preparing for her first psychology exam! We are meeting again on Saturday and Sunday this weekend in order to prepare for the exam on Tuesday. We reviewed the first few chapters today and will finish review on Saturday. She will also work on her take home essay that is due the day of the exam.
Saturday, the student and I went over the chapter on Memory in her book. We talked about the different components of memory as well as how it can fail. It was a pretty straight-forward and intuitive chapter that she understood well, so she should have no problem with the midterm on Wednesday!
We went over the syllabi and discussed plans for scheduling for the rest of the semester. We started work researching for a paper concerning the nature of love. We researched homosexuality and its similarity to heterosexuality in terms of classically quantified variables concerning the nature of love within the context of a relationship. I left the student with several articles we retrieved and formatted.
We spend the majority of this session reviewing a homework assignment that compared the differences between two personality assessments. The student had a good draft of the assignment prior to our work. We went through each of the questions asked on the assignment to ensure that the concepts and ideas that she was attempting to communicate were clearly stated. I reviewed the assignment for sentence structure errors and spelling mistakes as well. We spent some of our time trying to determine a good way to compare and contrast the results of these assessments.
