Algonquin DAT Reading Comprehension Tutoring FAQ
Reading comprehension is an element of almost every standardized examination. You probably have experienced this type of material on the SAT, the ACT, and any number of college or high school placement examinations over the course of your academic career. The near ubiquity of reading sections on standardized tests should not come as a surprise, as reading comprehension is a fundamental skill that is required of almost any profession and in almost any higher-level educational endeavor. The world of dental school is no different. Being able to understand what you read is absolutely critical; however, for many pre-dental students, their college curricula haven't emphasized this particular skill. The skills required for literary analysis and verbal reasoning can be easily lost among the countless biology labs and chemistry lectures of your undergraduate education. You may have aced all your physics tests, but reading comprehension may not have been explicitly taught to you. In fact, until you arrive at the testing center for your DAT Reading Comprehension exam, your analytical and reasoning abilities may not have been evaluated since your last standardized examination, and you may have yet to consider DAT Reading Comprehension tutoring. Varsity Tutors can help you in this by connecting you with DAT Reading Comprehension tutors who can help you prepare for this section of the DAT.
As a result of such a rigorous focus in the sciences, students can struggle with the reading comprehension part of the DAT. If you really want to succeed on the DAT Reading Comprehension Test, you need to be prepared when you sit for it, which means learning the specific skills tested on the exam. The one-on-one attention that a private tutor can offer you can help you gain these crucial skills. All DAT Reading Comprehension tutors are knowledgeable about the details and idiosyncrasies of this section of the exam, and have excelled on the section themselves not long ago. Beyond this, they are also exceptionally talented teachers, and can help you make remarkable progress much more quickly than you probably expect. The enthusiasm and commitment to excellence that personal instructors offer can help make even the most counterintuitive concepts come to life. An experienced instructor can help introduce study techniques to make this material stick in your long-term memory and reduce the need for you to revisit concepts over and over. Your preparation can be more focused, direct, and shorter in duration if you retain more and focus specific attention on your weakest areas. This is exactly the efficiency and effectiveness that private DAT Reading Comprehension tutoring can provide.
The investment of your time and energy in personal DAT Reading Comprehension tutoring can also help you free up time for a variety of other obligations that can impress dental school admissions committees. Because personal tutoring can help you focus your efforts on the specific areas and topics that you need to practice, you can get much greater benefits from minimal time investment. In a crowded review session, you might only benefit from a small fraction of the material covered. Plus, the instructor has to go at a pace to cover as much as possible to a class full of people. By providing one-on-one instruction, your tutor can make sure that the focus is on you, leaving you with more time for other experiences. They're also flexible, meeting at the most convenient location at the best time around your classes, job, and other obligations. Each lesson can be custom-tailored to your skills and progress, so your instructor can work with you no matter what speed you progress. And the Varsity Tutors live learning platform allows you to meet with a private tutor either in person or face-to-face online. This gives you the flexibility to meet with your tutor at the time and location of your choice.
Don't trust your dental school admissions chances to any other resource. Contact the Varsity Tutors educational directors for more information about being connected with DAT Reading Comprehension tutors available near you and get started today!

Recent Algonquin DAT Reading Comprehension Tutoring Session Notes
We began by reviewing the work that the student did from chapter 27 (triangles) and the book exam sections for math. He did well on the rectangle / square problems I assigned. Some of the more abstract triangle problems were still an issue, so we discussed how to approach such problems in general. This was the same approach for the test book assignment. (There were various topics treated in this review, ad hoc.) With the little bit of time left, we focused on probability in general as well as the basics of combinatorics. I assigned 1 section, a selection of problems from 23 on probability / combinatorics, and reassigned a selection of problems from 26 (circles).
The student and I met for another session of tutoring. We spent most of the session going over a practice test that the student had taken. We also did practice in geometry and in quadratic equations. The student is coming along nicely, I expect he will do very well on the test.
Today, we covered a new essay the student wrote. She decided to take on a more comparative task this time, but did not understand the best way to do so, so this week she is going to revise this paper to include a more balanced perspective. Her grammar skills and fluency continue to improve. Next, we continued to work through algebra problems. Once she gets a concept, she gets it; however, there are still holes in her math skills. Today, we primarily reviewed complicated substitution problems along with some basics.
We focused on math problems that the student was having difficulty with. We covered rate/distance problems, combinations and proportional mixes in particular. Her key challenge is establishing which quantity is the variable and how to parse the story problems
We reviewed integrated reasoning and also the essay writing of the GMAT. We went over each IR question type and how to solve each type. We also did examples of each IT question type. We also went over the process of how to write the essays. The student will continue to work on math timing over the next few days and also will work on IR questions and structuring and writing GMAT essays.
The student and I covered challenging math problems in both the data sufficiency section and problem solving section of the assessment test. I encouraged him to take a practice test to assess his current scoring potential. Overall, he has a strong mathematical foundation. I also covered strategic guessing strategies on the more complex problems found in the data sufficiency section of the assessment test.
