CompTIA Security+ Tutor • +3 Subjects
There is a huge shortfall in cyber professionals, all the while the world is becoming a more volatile environment. There is a shadow war that is ongoing right now. It is a war that is taking place in the fifth domain of Cyberspace. Cyber professionals work to keep society functioning. We do this by defending critical infrastructure, banking services, safeguarding logistical services, the apps used to schedule doctor appointments and much more. These jobs also are higher paying jobs that pay living wages from the start.I made a complete career change after I left the military. As an Infantryman my skills did not translate well with most civilian professions. During the beginning of the pandemic, I decided to jump in and learn everything I could about cybersecurity.I initially studied for and earned my CompTIA Security+ certification. I then attended a cybersecurity bootcamp called Level Effect. I had a job offer shortly after and have been working as an Information Security Analyst for the past 1 year 8 months. During that time I have continued studying for various certifications. In total I currently hold or am studying for the following certifications:CompTIA, Security+ CECompTIA, CySA+ CEGIAC Security Essentials CertificationGIAC Certified Incident HandlerGIAC Automating Information Security with Python (In-Progress)Years ago I earned my AS Degree in Science and am currently in my final year of earning my Bachelor of Professional Studies in Applied Cybersecurity.I love learning and enjoy tutoring whether in study groups on 1 on 1. I get fulfillment helping others achieve their goals, make a better life for themselves, and continue to improve their cybersecurity knowledge and technical skills.I find that some technical experts forget what it was like to not know what they know, and this can make it difficult for them to be adaptive in their teaching styles. I like to adjust to the needs of those I tutor.Whether you want to be quizzed before you sit for your test, a discussion on broad topics or you want to present specific questions on something that has you stumped, it is all fair game.We can also talk about real world skills that would be needed for entry level jobs and how you might market yourself if you are thinking on or in the middle of a career change.I look forward to working with you so feel free to reach out when you are ready!

I am a graduate of Laguna College of Art and Design (formerly Art Institute of Southern California). I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design and Illustration in 1996. The early 90's was the wild west of desktop publishing, and we as students were literally discovering the power of applications like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, side-by-side, with our instructors. Each day, we were learning from them. And they were learning from us. This is a philosophy I have always applied in my career... you are never too seasoned, or too experienced, to learn something new. After graduation, I accepted an opportunity with my employer to join a team in our Central California HQ, working to design and test the UI for a replacement Point-of-Sale system. This allowed me to eventually segue into a permanent role traveling across the country, supporting the hardware and software roll-out, and training our associates on the new system. This is when I developed my passion for travel. In 1999, I "went online" for the first time, and discovered that the same design applications I'd studied in art school were now the graphic building blocks of the Internet. I was immediately hooked. Within a couple of weeks, I was building my first website, "Next Stop, Aptos Station!", showcasing my love of railroading history.Over the next couple of years, I honed my skills in HTML and JavaScript. Those two programming languages, and eventually CSS, would serve me for the next 10 years of my career as a Web Designer and Developer. And eventually opened the door to more than a decade as a Salesforce.com Administrator. In 2018, I was able to shift gears and start traveling the U.S. with my wife and dog, in our camper van. I continue to work as a Salesforce Administrator, as a remote worker, from where ever we happen to be this month. I continue to enjoy my two aquatic passions, surfing and bodysurfing, and also manage to hit a few skateboard parks along the way.Through hard work, and smart choices, I have been blessed with a range of career opportunities, and life experiences, and I hope to impart this to my students.

I'm a graduate of many institutions of higher learning, both in the academic community as well as the military. I have graduate degrees from the University of Maryland and Suffolk University (Boston, MA), and a Bachelor's degree from the University of Central Florida. Recently I went back to school to get some new skills in Cybersecurity from a Technical College near my home, and I'm always on the hunt for further IT certification, which is my career field. I'm a never-give-upper, who knows what it is to fail and how to extricate myself from that potential situation. I'm huge on "process" and sticking to what works, and knowing if and when to quit (retrograde, not retreat). My strengths are situational awareness and reserved friendliness. Search terms that would find me would be "tenacity of purpose" and "lifelong learner who cares"

As a teacher with 6 years of experience, I am excited about the opportunity to apply my skills and experience to the tutor role. Besides my Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Bio Engineering, I also have five years of experience teaching Spanish, Computer Repair, Business and Finance to high school students. What I learned through that experience was that to get to remember and understand historical events, I had to make these events come to life. I am passionate about teaching and helping students come to love the act of learning, and I would cherish the opportunity to transform the way your students view and understand how numbers work.
