We worked more on SAT strategies and the importance of working through each problem step by step. Working this way helps the student stop making little mistakes and also helps him proceed when he doesn't know what first steps to take in the problem. I gave him a practice book to borrow and he is working on going step by step on his practice tests.

In this session, we finished discussing and practicing the math topics that would be covered on the SAT.  In addition, we worked through synonym problems and practiced analogies for the verbal section. She performed very well on all of the verbal questions that we practiced. Lastly, we worked through a reading comprehension passage together and practiced referring back to the passage in order to find the correct answer.

Worked with the student on clarifying ideas and being sure the choice of phrase accurately captures her strong ideas and excellent understanding of the material.   We made sure necessary transitions were in place, so that a reader would know exactly where the train of thought came from and is headed. We discussed not losing sight of the fact that the audience isn't in our heads and doesn't always draw the same conclusions that we have. This includes using effective transitions to introduce quotes from the text, move through a paragraph logically, and transition from one paragraph to the next.  Also learned to, when in doubt, use a quote from the text rather than paraphrasing an incident or conversation.

The student and I met from 4:10-6:20. We worked on gravitation concepts relating to escape speed, kinetic energy, and potential energy. We also worked on solving problems containing the concepts of black hole gravitation and satellite orbits.

Today, we reviewed acids and bases (Lewis and Bronsted-Lowry). We then worked through several problems together, reviewing the acid dissociation constant, pH, and the difference between strong and weak acids and bases.
