Education is important because it shapes your perspective of the world, and does so in a positive way. A strong grounding in the humanities, which is my specialty, will always serve you well because it puts art, art history, history and literature at the center of your universe. Even if you end up being a computer scientist or an engineer, the humanities will continue to serve your better instincts, and always give you an avenue to continue learning. I have been all across the country, from coast to coast and border to border, so to speak, and along the way I earned a bachelor's in history and a master's in journalism. A former reporter with 20 years of experience, I bring real-world lessons to the curriculum. I've been to Europe six times and Singapore once, and I appreciated the national treasures, and the people, everywhere I went. My background in the humanities, I'm convinced, allowed me to truly embrace what I experienced abroad. As a published author who has written five books, I am good at crafting storylines and would be more than happy to work with students looking to find their voice, both in fiction and nonfiction. My teaching style is informal and engaging, but I still expect the student to be prepared and deeply familiar with the course material.
