I was inspired by my mom to pursue a career in Education at an early age. In December of 2011 I graduated from McNeese State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and immediately began my teaching career. I have had the opportunity to teach pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, first, second, third, and fifth grades all subjects and on a departmentalized campus in Louisiana and Texas. I am in my fourteenth year of education and am completing my fourth year as an elementary(kindergarten-fifth grade) librarian. I completed my Library Media Specialist certification in May of 2023 from McNeese as well. I love being an elementary librarian because this allows me the opportunity to introduce foundational literacy skills and initiatives that I integrate across various subjects and topics in a fun and engaging manner that incorporates traditional classroom learning with virtual technology. I feel that every student should feel empowered to explore literature and build a strong foundation to foster a love of reading which can set the stage for lifelong academic success.

Hobbies

I am a member of numerous professional, educational, and librarian organizations such as the Calcasieu Parish Reading Council, American Library Association, Louisiana Association of Computer Using Educators, and the International Literacy Association. I love volunteering in my community with the National Association of University Women, Inc. and in April of 2023 was recently awarded the Woman of The Year for outstanding community service contributions. I have a passport and love to travel to new places and explore museums, restaurants, and unique shopping experiences.
