Akia: Mecklenburg County tutor
Certified Tutor
I am a graduate of the University of Mississippi with a Bachelor of Arts in General Studies, focusing in Education, History, and English. Since graduation, I have traveled to Haiti on a mission trip, serving alongside local churches and leaders to help meet the needs of people in the communities. During my trip, I worked on various projects, including medical care and clinics, as well as ministry opportunities like Vacation Bible School and sports camps.
I am particularly passionate about History and Reading. In my experience, helping struggling students requires patience, understanding, and a commitment to meet each student where they are. It's about recognizing that every student learns at their own pace and may face unique obstacles along the way. Effective support begins with identifying individual strengths and challenges, then tailoring guidance to foster growth and confidence. This means offering resources, creating a safe and encouraging environment, and breaking down complex concepts into manageable steps. When students feel supported and empowered, they are more likely to persevere through difficulties and experience meaningful, lasting learning.
I am a passionate advocate for education, believing it is essential for enhancing quality of life, and I strive to share this belief with my students. In my free time, I enjoy reading for personal growth, shopping, spending quality time with family and friends, and occasionally playing tennis.
