As a lifelong learner, I am excited about the opportunity to guide students in their learning journeys! I received a bachelor's degree in English and Art Education from the University of North Texas, a Master's in English from the University of Texas at Austin, and a doctorate in Educational Administration from Texas A&M. As a certified teacher and administrator, I taught middle school and high school English for over 25 years, followed by teaching at a university and working with individuals hoping to become teachers themselves.
Teaching and tutoring are my passions, because it is truly rewarding to help others see the joy of becoming proficient readers and writers. I have extensive experience in working with emergent literacy and beginning readers, and I have a Reading Specialist certification.
What a fun experience learning to read and write can be, with the right guidance!
In addition to working with elementary students, however, I have many years of experience in working with middle level and high school students. I love fiction - especially stories with a "twist" like those from O. Henry or H.H. Munro. It is exciting to watch students find a genre or author that intrigues them. Expository and research writing can be daunting until you see the "why" behind different structures and styles.
Reading great stories, experimenting with creative writing, or solving the mystery of effective expository writing can be some of life's most rewarding experiences. Whether you want help with a challenge you are facing ... or whether you just want to expand your literacy skills, I hope to have the chance to work with you wherever you are in your learning journey.

I love to read, and I am an avid crossword puzzle or Sudoku fan. Also - when I have time - I love to paint and sculpt. Painting with acrylics or watercolor is fascinating, because you get to see images "emerge" and change as you work, and sometimes you are surprised at what happens when two colors or two shapes blend into something new! I really love art history, and Sumerian or Egyptian art is especially interesting to me. In addition, I live in a heavily wooded area in the mountains, so I have the opportunity to observe the beautiful wildlife that surrounds me.
