I am a linguist by training, having studied Linguistics and Cognitive Science (with a focus on 2nd Language Acquisition) at the University of Rochester after completing my high school degree between the U.S. and Spain. I lived, during the undergraduate years, in the Spanish-language dormitory.
At the U of R, I developed a strong interest in computer-aided language instruction and ed tech. While earning my post-graduate certificate in the Leadership of Digital Learning, I was invited to develop online courses for a local community college. I am now mentoring my 172nd group of online language learners! Through this experience, and teaching face-to-face in a wide range of settings, from preschool to high school to the prison-based classroom, I've curated resources and tools to enhance computer-based and distance learning.
I have a Master's in Policy (focusing on the work of adjunct instructors) and a Master's in Teaching. I'm also certified in NY State to teach Spanish 5-7 and 7-12.
My students report that I am energetic, kind and patient. And sometimes silly and funny (let's just say I try).
I am currently a member of ACTFL (The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) and NYSAFLT (the New York State Association of Teachers of Foreign Language). In 2023 I began working on national certification through the National Board for Teaching Standards. I also work full time as a middle school dual language teacher where my classroom is filled with music, giggles and 77 bright pink flamingos.

My greatest role is that of mom to four young men and two daughters-in-law along with "abuela" to one adorable granddaughter. I care deeply about family, both close and extended. I was once a shepherdess to rare and critical-breed sheep and I continue to have a heart for agriculture (my current interest is in sustainable viticulture. I am a WSET certified sommelier). My family travels yearly to/from Spain where I spend time exploring relics and taking pictures (and eating delicious Spanish food, of course). I am happiest when I am surrounded by people, pets and music.
