Personal Statement
My Teaching Philosophy
Having raised six children from pre-school through college and taught secondary and higher education English for many years has proven that each student has different learning methods. In essence, my philosophy of teaching is equally a philosophy of learning. By that, I am implying a teacher must understand these differences and modify teaching methods to motivate students best and thus maximize their learning success. My success is the degree to which I eliminate students' writing-skill shortcomings where necessary and improve those with good writing skills to a higher level.
About Me
I have always enjoyed learning and relish teaching others to read and write by teaching English composition and literature. Studying literature imparts the wisdom of learned minds and enhances one's body of knowledge. Writing a paper about what one has studied furthers their comprehension of that wisdom and improves their ability to incorporate it into their understanding of themselves and the world. While many, if not most, students are not interested in teaching English or writing as a career; however whatever career one pursues, writing grammatically correct, concise, and well-organized documents is essential to success.
Regarding my education, I have seventy-five hours of graduate studies in English from Medieval to 21st-century works and completed undergraduate minors in creative writing and classical humanities. In addition, I have written a critical edition book of the complete works of an American Woman Romantic poet.
