Hello! I'm Sarah, a certified Arizona teacher with a masters degree and a whole lot of passion for learning, organization, and science. Listed below is a detailed summary of my educational and work background but I want to start off with a quick introduction about who I am and why I can help you at Varsity Tutors. As someone with both dyslexia and ADHD, I know how hard learning can be! Through the use of study habits, organization, and learning tools I overcame my disabilities to earn my masters degree which allowed me to become a great educator. I am positive I can help you set and achieve goals, allowing you to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.

My academic achievements include holding both a Masters in Education from Miami University of Oxford Ohio, and a Bachelors in Biology Secondary Education from Northern Arizona University. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Biology Secondary Education with a chemistry minor from Northern Arizona University in May 2013. My bachelors focused on both science content knowledge, as well as extensive training in secondary education. My master's degree was a hybrid, online and in person program, offered in partnership with the Phoenix Zoo ending in March 2016. The program focused on worldwide science education, inquiry based curriculum, and leadership in the field of higher education.

Professionally, my experience over the last decade includes work in the traditional classroom setting, in the 21st century online classroom, multiple informal learning environments, and in higher education institutions. I currently hold a teaching certificate from the State of Arizona in Biology Secondary Education, English as a Second Language, and Middle Grades Science. My professional experience as a teacher includes: six years as a 7th grade science teacher, one year as a 6th-8th grade science teacher, and six months as a student teacher in traditional high school classroom. I have also taught online biology, physical education, and character education classes, as well as helped high school students to transition between high school and college during my time as an online instructor. I taught part time for two years as a Program Instructor at the Arizona Science Center with pre school to high school age students in STEAM camps.
