Certified Tutor

I graduated in 2009 from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Arts in English with a focus on rhetoric and minors in history and business.

When I was little, I used to tell my mom that I wished I could stay in school forever. I've always loved reading, exploring new ideas, and treating my chronic curiosity with frequent doses of research and reading. As a life-long learner, I knew that I was destined for a career in education.
Over the past 12 years, I have had the opportunity to mentor, lead, and cultivate growth in hundreds of middle school students as a teacher in the third-largest public school district in Texas. I currently teach one block of 6th grade English Language Arts and Reading and four 6th grade World Cultures classes. I am certified as both an ESL and a Gifted/Talented instructor, so I have experience working with students of all learning abilities and readiness levels.
While I am available to tutor in a broad range of subjects, I most enjoy exploring History and helping students strengthen their English Reading and Writing skills. I especially have a passion for teaching test-taking strategies and watching students develop critical thinking skills and build confidence as they prepare for classroom tests, standardized tests, certification tests, and beyond.
I think it's safe to say that COVID changed all of our lives in one way or another, but I definitely see how it has impacted education for better and for worse. Though our traditional education system was shaken and lots of learning was interrupted, stalled, and compromised in some way, I am grateful that it opened the door for more online/remote-learning opportunities. It is vital now more than ever that we help students get back on track with their education, stay motivated academically, and thrive as learners in the unique circumstances that 21st-century learning has to offer.
I am excited about the opportunity to connect with and work with learners from all over the country. I look forward to meeting you!

Hobbies

When I'm not doing school-related stuff, I enjoy spending my downtime at home. I am a proud dog mom of Murphy, my little rescue floof. I love crafting and doing DIY projects around the house. A cozy evening on the couch, reading a book or doing word puzzles with the fireplace lit is my idea of a perfect evening!
