During the summers of 2018 and 2019 I learned that hope is a vital part of living and after every hour of darkness in life, you need hope to survive. I had the opportunity to work at special needs schools while meeting an amazing young boy named Devin. Devin was the definition of energy and wanted to fight through any challenges that came his way despite the struggling stereotypes society placed on him. Encouraged by Devin's endurance to succeed, he inspired me to pursue a career in Physical Therapy and work directly with children containing impairments such as his, but also those with Non-Verbal learning disabilities, cerebral palsy, cognitive impairments, Autism, etc. In attending college and graduate school, I will obtain my doctoral degree in physical therapy to inspire young children the way Devin inspired me. Through physical therapy, I can be a physical asset to an individual's physical, emotional and mental improvement. I plan to accomplish these goals by not only earning my doctoral degree but attending internships and volunteer work that specializes in special needs rehabilitation. I will obtain my goal of becoming a physical therapist, not only by working vigorously in school but by advocating for the special needs community. Some people may look at a person with special needs and see disabilities, while others feel nothing but absolute sympathy, and some through the lack of knowledge overlook them completely. Because of Devin and the joy he brought into my life, I intend to spread my plethora of knowledge and love of special needs just like he shared with me.
