I'm from a small college town in Pennsylvania. After graduating from Tulane University in New Orleans with a BA degree in English, I worked in business for a few years. My parents and friends would often say to me, "You should be a teacher." Well, in 1988 I came across an opportunity to try my hand at teaching English (ESL) in Pusan, South Korea. Our students were primarily college students, international business people and government officials, high school English teachers, and other adults. I loved it! During my two years there I became the academic director at the two largest institutes in the city. I returned to the USA with a passion for teaching, enrolled in graduate school, and received a master degree in education and secondary teacher certification at Bucknell University. Alas, my career path took me into the non-profit sector for 25 years where I worked for the American Red Cross headquarters and later founded my own fundraising consulting company. In 2014, however, I became a founding instructor at a newly instituted English Language program at Susquehanna University and my love of teaching young adults reemerged. We teach and tutor academic level writing, reading, and listening and speaking skills to EFL students. For the past 8 years, I have taught and tutored young people and adults from over a dozen countries who need to read and study academic course materials, write scholarly essays and research papers, and deliver intellectual speaking presentations on a variety of subjects. Last semester I tutored a student who improved his grade for a literature class from D- to C+ in 5 weeks. I believe that anyone who wants to improve can succeed. If you're willing to work for yourself, I will do everything in my power to help you and guide you to improve and succeed.

My hobbies are many. Golf, obviously, and I played all the sports when I was younger (baseball, football, basketball, etc.). Music has always been in my life: I played the string bass in high school, piano, guitar, and I'm currently teaching myself bluegrass banjo. I love to read and I read all kinds of books, from Shakespeare to the Hobbit. Also, ever since I got a telescope for Christmas when I was a boy, I have had a fascination with the stars and have owned four telescopes since then. Finally, I love lighthearted humor and believe it to be an essential element to enhance the teaching and classroom environment.
