Certified Tutor

I have a teaching certificate from Capital University in Intervention (Special Education) and Reading. Additionally, I have a Bachelor's of Arts in Speech and Hearing Sciences from The Ohio State University. I hold a 120 hour TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certificate. I have been in the education world for over 10 years. For many years, I worked as a teacher in both private and public settings teaching students, ages 2-21 on the autism spectrum. Additionally, I have worked as a reading specialist incorporating multi-sensory techniques based on the Orton-Gillingham methodology. For the past four years, I have been teaching English as Second Language to students in China. I also teach yoga to preschoolers! Currently, I tutor many students both in person and virtually in reading. I hold both small group and individual tutoring sessions. My strengths lie in building rapport with students, differentiation, scaffolding, meeting students where they are at and helping them reach their goals, patience, and strong communication skills with students and parents. My favorite subjects to teach are phonics, reading, reading comprehension, assisting students with learning differences, teaching English Language Learners and writing. I believe getting to know my students and tailoring my instruction to each individual learner is imperative. I hope to make all students comfortable and at ease in my classroom. I like to incorporate a variety of tools in the classroom to keep students engaged such as games, books, and activities. I think students learn best when they have a good working relationship with their teacher and/or tutor. I believe that all students can learn given the right instruction and guidance.
