I studied for 11 years at MIT, where I earned a bachelor's, master's, and PhD in Mechanical Engineering. After finishing my PhD, I stayed an extra year at MIT to teach and complete a teaching certificate, wanting to share my enthusiasm for science and engineering with younger learners. I love sharing not just the core ideas and skills, but also the context that makes these skills important and exciting. When I teach, I scaffold the important concepts, giving the students enough support that they are able to work through examples, but still requiring them to think through the problem and actively practice the key skills.
I am excited to tutor any subject in the undergraduate Mechanical Engineering curriculum, and I have a particular fondness for Solid Mechanics, Fluid Dynamics, and Mechanical Design.
At the high school level, I am available to tutor physics and calculus. As an MIT undergraduate, I taught two semesters of freshman physics as a Teaching Assistant, both in Mechanics and in Electricity & Magnetism. As for calculus, I saw how much students needed the math in later classes, and how they struggled to recall their skills. I'd like to help students gain a deep an intuitive understanding of this important subject.
Lastly, one of my passions is French, which I can tutor at the beginner and intermediate levels. I took French through the AP level in high school, and in college I took advanced classes and studied abroad. Today, I speak to my children only in French, working with my husband (who is also French) to raise them bilingual. I've also spent a lot of time with extended family in France. This unique experience helps me make the French tutoring more meaningful by allowing me to share cultural context and firsthand observations.
