After earning A's in my core science courses and taking the MCAT, I became an on-campus tutor for Creighton University. I felt a responsibility to share the knowledge I accumulated as a student and help others perform better. This job gave me a unique opportunity to work with students one-on-one and get comfortable building rapport in a short period of time. After working for a year at Creighton I decided to extend my tutoring to online at Varsity Tutors so I could affect a broader range of students for the good.
Typically, students come to me with either a faulty understanding of or a complete absence of a concept. Tutoring allows me to non-judgmentally correct these flaws and fill in these mental gaps in students. Through my experience in tutoring so far, I have learned that I am not only teaching students the topic they come in for, but also showing them more efficient and effective ways to study and learn. By teaching these students study methods, and providing positive reinforcement during their session, I help them succeed in other classes as well.
