I went to college initially not knowing what I wanted to do with my life; I came out a horticulturalist. I worked at a vineyard, owned by a family who then opened up a winery, so I then became a winemaker. I had a blast and was successful, but about five years into my career I had to stop and reevaluate my life. Was this really what I wanted?
I was about twenty-four when I decided I wanted to really figure out what I wanted. It was difficult. I had to do some real soul searching. At twenty-five, I quit my job as a winemaker and moved back to Houston, close to my family. I toyed with a few different ideas, but I finally figured out what I really want. I want to teach.
Since then, I have been enrolled as an intern with the Texas Teachers of Tomorrow program, working toward obtaining my teaching certificate to teach high school math. I am currently working as a substitute teacher for the Conroe school district. My personal teaching philosophy is that all students have the desire to learn, and it is our jobs as educators to facilitate and inspire and guide our students to achieve their success. I believe that trust, patience, persistence, and consistency are so important for creating the proper learning environment, one in which the student is not afraid to take risks in his or her learning.
Math has always been my favorite subject, and I am looking forward to sharing my enthusiasm for math with y'all.
