What is your teaching philosophy?

I am an advocate of looking at many different perspectives to find the right way to integrate learning.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

A first session together is to identify what needs to happen, their goals, and where the challenges are in reaching those goals.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

You become an independent learner by asking questions, being curious, and having an inherent interest in the subject matter.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Stay motivated in learning by creating pathways of practical applications into the subject matter in multiple ways.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

If there is difficulty in learning a skill or concept, then it is often helpful to take a step back and see if there are other ways to approach the information.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Students who are struggling with reading comprehension can benefit from humor, laughter, and other modes of expression.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Our time together is served best when there is mutual respect and understanding.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Let's look at what IS exciting about your subject matter and go from there to find a connection.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

To find understanding in the material, I will ask the student to tell me back in their words a "take-away" that is beneficial to them.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Confidence comes from within, and it is important to coach a student in more personal self-awareness to bridge the gap between self-confidence and subject-matter confidence.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I ask a lot of questions to evaluate a student's needs, and we develop a good rapport to form a foundation.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

I adapt to the student's needs based on the student's interests.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

I use any materials that are helpful to the student in a tutoring session.
