Certified Tutor

Hello!
My name is Lauren, and I'm currently a Public Relations major at the University of Texas at Austin. I'm originally from Houston, Texas- popularly known as the birthplace of Beyonce- where I attended St. John's School. I am a middle child, a proud Pitbull puppy owner, and an enthusiastic student. Fun fact; When I was five, my mom signed me up for a youth soccer team, where I discovered that running after a ball in Houston's humid summer heat- or at any time- for that matter, simply isn't my fort. When my mom picked up on this fact I was promptly placed into dance class, which I liked because it was indoors. My approval of air conditioned dance practice eventually evolved into a real passion and appreciation for the art form. Dancing (and now, cheerleading!) provides the platform to develop the strong, committed, and confident personality that defines me today.

A little bit about my experience:

- I worked with the Breakthrough Houston School Year Program as an English Teacher from 2013-2016. (I maintained a classroom of 12 8th grade students a couple of Saturdays each month)

- I worked as a Summer School Tutor for high school students at Cristo Rey Jesuit high school during the summers of 2014 and 2015, focusing primarily on essay building and English.

- As a freshman college student, I consider myself to be well-versed in the college application arena. I have a plethora of tips and tricks stored in my arsenal to facilitate a smooth application experience.

- Scholarships: I am currently attending UT through the generosity of the Texas Exes Forty Acres Scholars Program: UT's only merit-based full ride.

In addition to teaching middle school English throughout high school- I have a passion for reading/writing and a knack for personal voice.

Thanks for taking the time to visit with me! Don't hesitate to contact me with any inquiries. If you are ready to schedule an appointment, feel free to shoot me a message and I will get back to you as soon as possible. See you soon!

What is your teaching philosophy?

Say. See. Do! I follow the breakthrough method of allowing students to see the material, talk about the material, and then apply the material in a meaningful manner.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would love to use the first session as a chance to get to know the student, figure out their academic goals, and get all course materials organized.
