Certified Tutor
I am a retired mathematics teacher. I am enjoying my retirement by traveling for 2 years around the United States and the Caribbean. I believe all students are capable of learning and improving through hard work and time. As a tutor, I believe it is my job to help facilitate this growth and learning! I am looking forward to working with students on line as I continue my own personal adventures.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I want to help students reach their fullest potential; I will do this by helping them focus on the big ideas and paying careful attention to the details.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I will ask each student what they believe are their strengths and weaknesses are and how I can help. I will also watch them work on practice sets to see what they are doing, and ask them to explain their thinking.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By showing them and guiding them towards tools that they can use in the future. Each student needs to develop a large toolbox of skills and knowledge.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Spend additional time working on it, give them problem sets to practice it and come back to it over time.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Give them good and solid practical applications; help them see the value of what we are doing.
