What is your teaching philosophy?
Carefully listen to students and guide them to success!
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Get to know the student, where the student is coming from, and what goals the student has.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I'd direct the student to appropriate resources and provide helpful advice.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Stay focused on your goals and dreams!
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Repetition! Try to approach the problem in multiple ways.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I'd help them to dissect the passage.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Listen to the student, and ask for feedback from the student if an approach is working. If not, let's try something different!
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
I'd think about each problem like a puzzle.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
The teach back method is the best. I would ask the student to teach me what the student understands.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Practice, practice, practice!
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
By listening!
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
By listening to feedback and changing my approach.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
Official course materials, internet resources, and prep books.
