What is your teaching philosophy?
Keep it simple and use a lot of examples.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Make a game plan.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Show them why learning is useful and how it applies to real life.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Give them exciting examples.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Find out what the problem is and address the root cause.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Draw pictures.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Give them practice problems and go over their attempts.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Make it more relatable. For example, if they don't like statistics but love basketball, show them how to make basketball statistics.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Practice is key.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Start easy and then get hard.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
Ask them. If that doesn't work give them some practice problems and see how they perform.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
Although it takes time eventually it becomes apparent how certain people learn!
