Hey there! My name is Sam. I grew up in Teaneck, New Jersey, but Philadelphia is now my home, and I could not be happier about that. I am very passionate about education, both in and outside the classroom.

From my sophomore year of high school, I knew I wanted to be an educator. As a recent graduate of the Temple University College of Education with a double major in Secondary Social Studies Education and History, I now have the requisite training to fulfill this longstanding dream of mine. No matter the subject, I am a dedicated facilitator of learning who will work my hardest to help students achieve their learning goals. My long term goal in education is to earn a doctorate degree and teach teachers.

My philosophy of education is centered around facilitation. I believe my role as an educator is to be a resource for students as they work towards their learning goals. With my training as an educator, my responsibility as a tutor is to identify where students might be struggling and find creative solutions based on empirically proven methods. By the end of each session, my goal is for students to feel as though their perspective is empowered, while being closer to achieving learning goals than we began.

On the personal side, I love to explore Philadelphia, especially the food scene, as well as listen to music, watch and play sports, and read non-fiction. I love supporting my alma mater, as a I am a football and basketball season ticket holder, and I serve on two alumni boards. While I enjoy learning about history of all sorts, my favorite subject is pre-Civil War politics.

My biggest influence in education is Russell Conwell, the founder of Temple University. In his famous Acres of Diamonds speech, he said that "I do not request a larger garden, but finer seeds." It is this dedication to the foundations of teaching and learning that I bring most to the table as an educator.
