How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By allowing the student to attempt questions and work problems alongside them, they will gain confidence in their abilities. This will encourage independent learning and give them the skills and confidence to tackle problems on their own in the future.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

If a student is becoming frustrated with a problem, it is important to first step away from the problem. Then, it might be beneficial to think of other ways to explain the concept, such as with real world examples.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Personally, when my teacher/tutor is engaged and excited about a topic it makes me excited. By staying positive throughout the session and encouraging them, it may help them stay engaged and excited as well.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

In the first session with a student, it is essential to lay down the groundwork for the future. By learning what styles work best for them, I will be able to assist them more effectively in the future.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Personally, I find practice problems extremely beneficial. They allow you to test yourself and see what material you do and do not know.
