I graduated from University of Washington with a Master's In Teaching Secondary Education and a Bachelor's in Mathematics. I have had 1 and a half year's training and 2 years real experience as a high school math teacher. My strongest subjects are algebra and calculus.
I enjoy helping people learn and grow, and over my time teaching I found I got the most enjoyment (and was also the most effective) in smaller group and one-on-one sessions. I try to teach through Socratic questioning and encouraging autonomy in my students, as independence is a crucial step to true understanding of subject material. I also try to teach concepts rather than questions, as being able to answer a question will answer just that-one question. Teaching to the concept will allow you to answer the question and all other questions that employ a similar strategy. I also advocate for showing work and repeating steps to synthesize the learning process after a problem has been solved.
Outside of education, I'm a big fan of music and live concerts (I produce and perform live electronic music as a glorified hobby), Seattle culture, and cats.
