Growing up, I have always had an interest in science - if I was not watching Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network, one would find me watching Discovery Channel or National Geographic. My experiences have brought me to realize that science is my passion and that I should pursue a career in my passion. Stemming from that, I think that all students should pursue whatever it is they truly enjoy and excel at.
I believe that with the right tools and assistance, every student can learn what she/he needs to learn in order to pursue her/his passion. I believe that learning encompasses the acquisition of knowledge, understanding and the ability to apply that knowledge and understanding. In working with a student, my goal is to ensure that the student knows the work, understands the work, and has the ability to apply what she/he knows and understands.

What is your teaching philosophy?
Any student can grasp any subject matter. It is just a matter of finding out the concepts that the student needs to develop a further understanding of.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I'd start with getting an idea of what the parent/guardian would like to see as a result from the sessions (if the parent/guardian initiated contact). I would then get an understanding of what the student would like to get out of the sessions, as well as learn about the student's interest outside of tutoring. Based on the responses from the parent/guardian and student, we will begin to develop a plan to get the best results from the sessions. The rest of the session would spent going through practices questions so that the student's needs can be better assessed.
