What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe in being patient. Not all students are alike, so I adapt to teaching at each student's pace. I try to lead by example and act as a guide when problem solving.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I like to assess each student's math skills by taking a short diagnostic assessment to determine what their weaknesses and strengths are. From there I can decide where to begin our lessons.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

The number one way to help a student become an independent learner is to motivate them by setting goals.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Positive reinforcement and goal setting are great student motivators.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would spend more time trying to break down the concept and, if necessary, utilize YouTube or other resources to help guide them through understanding.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Being very friendly and down to earth with each student helps build trust and confidence, leading to great sessions!

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I've always felt that applying mathematics to real-world situations engages students and helps them fully understand what they are learning.
