I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

I am a third-year mechanical engineering student at Brown University,

Passionate about sustainable design; cross-disciplinary work between the arts and sciences; building all sorts of knick-knacks with my hands; being outdoors; music exploration; and expression through writing.

I have previously tutored math and science for K-12 students (and a little bit of SAT Writing) at GT Learning Academy in Sugar Land, TX. My teaching style is generally very visual (sometimes movement-based), but I believe in adapting teaching styles to accommodate a student's needs and interests.

I hope to share my enthusiasm for never-ending learning and problem-solving!

What is your teaching philosophy?

Listen to the students. Encourage thinking, encourage doing, encourage playing.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would figure out what the student can learn with ease and try to connect that with the skill or concept they have difficulty learning.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I would ask the students questions and have them go through their problem-solving process with me.
