Brian: London tutor
Certified Tutor
I graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in English Language and Literature, which is the subject area that I am most passionate about. My main areas of focus were British Romanticism and Modern American Literature, but I also love contemporary fiction, personal development / spirituality nonfiction, theater, and public speaking. Over the past nine years, I have served as an instructor at two large outdoor educational programs; I taught as a certified ropes course instructor and English tutor for grades 6-12. In my view, teaching and tutoring the Language Arts allows us to help students connect to their higher selves and see the power in their own individual voices. This is what I hope to infuse in each student with whom I interact.
Teaching and public speaking have been great passions of mine since I was a child, and I am currently transitioning into this profession in a full-time career capacity. My instructional style is open, compassionate, and ethical.
Outside of the language arts, my interests and specialties are wide. I love yoga (and am hoping to become a certified instructor someday), music and all other performing arts, blogging, and health/wellness advocacy. I also love to read as often as possible.
I value making genuine, honest, and meaningful connections with everyone I meet, especially my students. Because of this, I aim to approach tutoring from a place of compassion and mutual understanding.
