Lloyd
Certified Tutor
I earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan in Latin American Studies. I have four years of extensive experience as a language arts tutor specializing in reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, writing, and oral communication. I am also fluent in Spanish as a second language and can tutor this subject effectively.
I particularly enjoy teaching students about word roots, pointing out the subtle connections between English, Spanish, and Latin as a way to recognize meanings and increase vocabulary.
My goal extends well beyond merely covering the curriculum. In addition, I strive to stimulate my students' natural curiosity, enabling them to experience the pure joy of learning. I accomplish this by conversing with my students in order to find out what interests them most. Whenever possible I try to incorporate some of these topics into our sessions to make the experience more fun and interesting for them. My objective is to leave my students with a desire to expand their horizons long after our program has been completed.
I have a wide variety of hobbies and interests including astronomy, current events, travel, geography, photography, dogs, and professional sports. I am also very involved with physical fitness activities including daily workouts, rollerblading, bike riding, and swimming. I also enjoy using the Internet as a tool for exploring all of these subjects.
