Tutoring review by Vanessa in Farmington, UT
Today we reviewed for an exam that the student has tomorrow. We covered the Pythagorean theorem, squares and square roots, real numbers, and ordering numbers. The problems she struggled with at first were the application problems that were not as straight forward as her other problems. After reviewing them, she had a very good understanding of the material. We ended with practice problems on the whiteboard. She had a positive attitude and was confident in herself about the work she was doing. She received a 100 on the quiz she had last week over the same material. I helped the other student with his science work on half-life. He also had a positive attitude. I also checked a math problem of his over solutions of inequalities.

The student and I met for our first time today and it went well. He's a good, smart little guy. We worked on packets to prepare for his final week of math. We got to know each other along the way. Since it is a final, we worked on everything from fractions to word problems, from finding the area of irregular polygons to solving algebraic problems. He did well at everything, but I learned his main issue is that he likes to picture everything in his head. This means that on algebra problems with several steps he resists writing each step on paper as he proceeds. We will work on that some more this summer. He is able to verbalize the steps he takes, so I just need him to write those down as he goes.

We worked on reviewing for the student's test tomorrow. We did the review packet and talked about simplifying exponents, radicals, and re-writing equations in terms of different variables. We also went over how to solve proportional relationships algebraically even when there were negative signs.

Tutoring review by Kori in Farmington, UT
The student and I reviewed multiplying and dividing by powers of ten in preparation for a test and discussed how to check if the answer makes sense. We also quickly reviewed dividing by decimal divisors, but she seemed comfortable with this topic even though she had struggled with it last year.

Tutoring review by Nick in Farmington, UT
The student and I spent this session reviewing her class notes on optimization and completing several problems using this skill, since her upcoming quiz will include these problems. As usual, she showed a good understanding of this topic from class -- she just needed some reassurance and more practice doing different types of optimization problems. I feel confident that she will be well prepared going into her quiz!

Tutoring review by Kyle in Farmington, UT
We started reviewing material from the semester as a whole, as the student has her midterm exam soon. We covered probability and went on to binomial distribution, where I explained to her its larger applications, including the binomial theorem's application to calculus.
