Tutoring review by John in Brentwood, TN
We went over the second half of his last test and over the concept that was covered in class last week. The test covered polynomials (solving functions/finding its roots, the factor/remainder theorem, complex roots). In class, the student learned how to solve rational functions and inequalities. The student didn't really struggle with any concepts this session. He quickly applied the new knowledge. We also were able to solve a test question that stumped us last session. I am confident he will do well on his next quiz/test.

We reviewed religious vocabulary and doctrine, as well as Bible verses, before the student's religion exam tomorrow. So far, he has done very well on each of his finals and got an A on at least one that I know of, so I'm very happy for him and pleased with his progress!

Tutoring review by Gabriel in Brentwood, TN
This session Student 1 and I went over principles of Project Management focusing on scheduling and time management. These are valuable skills that will ensure she stays on task with the ability to keep track of her daily activity. I also explained keeping your schedule flexible will allow her to make adjustments as needed and to avoid the domino effect when one things don't go per schedule. She appeared to very interested with the idea of making the most of her available time. This session with Student 2 was a focus session in preparedness for final exams. I explained the importance of starting early when studying for final exams, essentially don't wait for the instructor to hand out the review. We then discussed the idea of taking the material and digesting it in several pieces to avoid cramming. I explained that even if he feels confident about a subject, he still needs to work on getting prepared and staying sharp. I used sports analogies explaining how the best athletes get started early and put in extra hours at the play-offs, which is where he is in the school year. He has a big challenge ahead of him, but he assured me that he feels he is up for it. I will check on his progress during the next session and really push him to stay on task.

Both students and I went over basic algebra problems. Both the boys are doing very well in this class. I think this is the second time learning the same stuff because they have moved to a new school.

Tutoring review by Haley in Brentwood, TN
The main concept that the student and I worked on yesterday was writing large numbers in scientific notation. His science teacher had prepared a worksheet with a series of word problems and calculation problems relating to scientific notation, some of which involved doing some extra calculations to figure out a value based on information presented in a table. We completed the math on the worksheet, and in doing so examined a couple of helpful strategies when numbers start to get really big, or when a problem asks the mathematician to perform an operation with at least two values expressed in scientific notation. To conclude, we studied for his French test that is scheduled for Tuesday using the online flashcards, on which his teacher prepared some study materials. For vocabulary words that were more difficult to remember, I advised him to see if he could find any base-words within the word that could serve as a clue for the word's meaning, often as a result of the word sharing a stem from a similar English word. He is a very bright student, and I look forward to continuing to encourage him to really think through more difficult problems like our scientific notation work, before resorting to guessing. I believe that the majority of the time he will find he is able to find the answer through his excellent reasoning skills.
