Tutoring review by Connor in Schiller Park, IL
Today we continued our work on quadrilaterals, learning how to find the area when various pieces of information are missing. We also worked on deductive reasoning as applied to number of sides of polynomials. The student has a problem seeing patterns, we did the same problem three times in a row with different numbers, and all three times the student did not see that it was nearly identical in procedure to the previous problem. We will work on this concept next session. We reinforced the idea of writing everything down because minor mistakes are much more common when he does things in his head.

The student is on Spring Break, so we reviewed exponents, which was what he was concentrating on last week. He did a great job with what we reviewed last week and would be ready for an assessment if he was given one on Friday. We also got ahead and worked on negative exponents of entire expressions.

The student and I worked on those math concepts he felt he had the most trouble with during the last ACT he took. We talked about formulas, what to do when you don't have them, and ways to synthesize what the question is asking you. We worked on circles, midpoint and distance.

The student and I worked on a practice exam. We discussed evaluating six trigonometric functions based on a given terminal point of an angle, determining the exact value of a trigonometric expression using the unit circle, determining the period, domain, and range of different trigonometric functions by identifying vertical/ horizontal shift/ compression/ stretching/ reflection, evaluating the inverse trigonometric functions by applying the unit circle, isolating the restricted region of each type of function, and back-calculating the angle value, and evaluating double trigonometric functions. She understood the materials.

The student and I continued our review for his final exam. This session we focused on polynomial and rational functions. We went over the several approaches to finding zeroes of function: long and synthetic division, factoring, quadratic formula, etc. Additionally, we discussed at length how to graph these functions: identifying zeros, vertical, horizontal, or slant asymptotes, vertex, and so on. He has a great understanding of the material and we will revisit all this information for the last day before his test.

Tutoring review by Eduard in Schiller Park, IL
The student had a test coming up, and we reviewed the content that was going to be covered. He had some trouble with logarithmic functions and conversions to exponential functions, and we took some time to go over that. He then worked on a practice worksheet/test that his teacher had given out. After numerous examples, he seemed to have grasped the content. He was engaged and attentive during the session.
