We covered integration methods using u-substitution, separation of variables, and integration by parts. We also did trigonometric substitution and combinations of all of the above methods in slightly more challenging problems. The student has a good attitude towards the material. I told the student to practice U-sub. We will continue to focus of getting methods of integration down to a scientific process so that each question involves a step by step problem solving methodology choice, and culminates in finding the appropriate tool for the problem at hand.

The student completed a social studies assignment and a math assignment. I helped him to understand independent and dependent variables by using examples from sports. He said that he was able to understand the concepts much more clearly because they were interesting to him. He does not routinely study, so today I taught him a method of studying for an upcoming Spanish quiz. It seemed to work well for him, and I anticipate that he will do very well on the quiz.

My first session with this student went very well today. I brought my whiteboard and we went through example problems for linearization and also differentials. We learned how to find and evaluate the dy=f'(x)dx equation. After the example problems, she asked questions. After the example problems, we moved on to more difficult ones from the book. She did the problems alongside me to ensure she gets the practice as well. She catches on quickly and is quite good at doing algebra in her head. Hopefully, this quiz will be easy and we can tackle next Wednesday's material with ease.

For this session, we took a look at the graphs of derivatives and how to manipulate them to our advantage. We also went over some ideas about the second derivative test and concavity. We reviewed some of the student's homework problems together and then the others I had him do alone while I watched to make sure he was doing them correctly.
