We discussed factoring polynomials and using long division and other tactics to divide polynomials. The student has good problem solving abilities. With reps I believe he will feel confident.
He feels he understood the test material and thinks it went well. We discussed composite functions and their properties. We looked at numerous problems for evaluating them using equations, graphs, and tables. We examined the working backwards tactic, especially to determine for what value does the function give a specified value using a table.

In this session, we covered interpretation of the regression, estimating the variable of interest, and interpreting the variable coefficients. The last problem in the set was similar to another one we worked on, so that will serve as extra practice for the student.

The student read her SRP book and I asked her some comprehension questions. She remembered some of her spelling words so I wrote them in dot letters and she connected the dots with her pens to make the spelling word.

We worked on 3 distinct subject areas today. Initially, we were handling interest/decay functions and using logarithms to free up our exponents so that we could solve an inequality for them. This transitioned into exponential functions, where we were just plugging in different time values to generate an answer. The 2nd area was word problems involving Systems of Equations. Lastly we dealt with piecewise definitions of functions (and later graphing of these), as well as addition, subtraction, and multiplication of two functions. I explained the difference between solid vs. empty dots as we were constructing the graphs.
This was a clean and (almost) completely error-free session.

The student was ready and eager to dive into completing his worksheet from school. I was very impressed that he knew exactly what to do after I read the instructions. There were a couple of tricky questions, and he guessed the answers. We then read one of his books, which he said was too easy. I left him with two fun worksheets to do over the break. One is a tad more challenging than his homework, but I am sure he will do well.

The student has an upcoming exam, so we reviewed some of the topics on it. This included related rates, optimization problems, linear approximation, and trapezoidal rule. I have her more optimization and related rates problems to help her practice creating equations and relations to solve the problems. She has maintained good grades and received an A last semester.
