Today the student and I continued working to improve her reading score in preparation for the January 28th assessment test. We spent today's lesson meticulously dissecting a single real assessment test practice section, analyzing question strategies, working hard on vocabulary, and discussing tactics for short and long reading passages.

The student needed to review her English homework involving direct quotations and reading vocabulary. She also completed a word problem worksheet involving the application of her previously learned fraction skills, and reviewed clue words for addition and subtraction.

I gave the student a lecture on genetics and evolution for the exam. She felt better after the tutoring session. Additionally we worked on a few practice questions that would test her knowledge of the subject matter and also further familiarize her with exam-like questions.

Finishing her ACT prep by going over the math test, where she seems to do okay except for a couple of formulas she forgot. It helps that she's completed her Algebra 2 course because now she knows some of the more difficult concepts from trigonometry and logarithms.

We reviewed the science section that the student completed independently. We also did an English section. We then discussed some of the trickier math problems and reviewed overall strategies in preparation for the test this weekend.

Today we figured out a study schedule for what she should be doing every day during the weeks and months leading up to her MCAT. We talked about her study materials, practice tests, past science courses, goals, and past experiences with the test itself. Also, we started reviewing key formulas for physics questions and talked about how to set up her folders, notebooks, and notecards to facilitate effective study.
