Tutoring review by Michael in Lakewood, WA
The student and I went through problems the prepare for a quiz regarding how to prove similarities of triangles and parallelograms and setting up proportions. He has become extremely skilled in formal proofs. It has been noted as a common misconception that students set up proportions according to the use of cross-multiplication to eliminate fractions, so when he began with incorrect logic, I asked him for his step-by-step reasoning. As we reviewed from the point of view of logic, rather than from the setup using cross-multiplication, he was able to create the correct equation. When he finished, I asked him to comment about the difference between his last and first attempt, and he clearly understood where he went wrong.

I had a good session with the student. We spent the majority of our time on the geometry of circles and angles drawn in various ways. We also spent time on algebra problems involving curve identification based on translations. He is doing well. He has come a long way this year - his intuition is improving, his calculations are getting better, and so are his grades! Nice work!

We started the chapter 9 assignment, and we got a lot done! This chapter is centered on trigonometry, including radians, law of sines, law of cosines, and the unit circle. A lot of this math involves using formulas, especially the Laws of Sines and Cosines, which is never a problem for the student. We are still on track to be done at the end of the week!

Tutoring review by Goke in Lakewood, WA
We covered order of operations (PEMDAS). The student did an awesome job simplifying numerical expressions via utilizing order of operations rules. She was able to execute the inverse operations of multiplication/ division and addition/ subtraction with profound proficiency. She followed the strategy of the rules of order of operations well. Her attitude was superb throughout the duration of this portion of this evening's session. She continues to make wonderful progress in her math class. She shared a 100% she scored on an assignment involving the Cartesian coordinate plane. She also achieved a 100% on the practice test involving order of operations. She is making wonderful progress in 6th grade mathematics. We also used the "during" reading strategy to continue to cover the book "The Meanest Doll in the World." The strategy that we employed was the "Say Something" method. She was able to recall meticulous aspects of the chapter by using this strategy. She did very well processing the chapter in a metacognitive fashion. Overall, this was an extremely productive tutoring session. She is making very good academic progress thus far.

The student showed improvement by getting an A on her quiz. We worked through some new material, which was primarily piecewise functions and determining domains. Aside from minor mistakes mixing up the greater-than and less-than signs, she picked up the topic very quickly. We finished by reviewing some of the earlier topics that will be on her unit test this week.
