The student and I first started the session with a review of factoring of trinomials. We reviewed the rules of factoring trinomials then we practiced some with coefficients greater than 1. After I explained the steps, she understood them very quickly. Then, we returned to the materials from yesterday: transformation, roots/zeros/solutions, vertex, and standard vs. vertex forms of the parabola. In the end, she solved for the answer using the quadratic formula, and I showed her how to reach the same answer by completing the squares. Also, I taught her how to find zeros and minimum/maximum points using her graphing calculator. Overall, she is getting more practice.

Tutoring review by Michael in Suffolk, VA
Today the student and I covered geometry (triangle congruence proofs), physics (kinematics), and precalculus (rates, derivatives). We reviewed her geometry homework for correctness. I introduced triangle congruences. She is now ahead of her class. We reviewed derivation of kinematic equations for constant acceleration cases and I introduced precalculus to give her a deeper understanding of introductory physics and make it easier.

Tutoring review by Howie in Suffolk, VA
We went over solving single variable equations, factoring via quadratic formula, completing the square, and regular factoring. We also covered solving quadratic equations, graphing lines given just the equation in the question. The students did not show any signs of struggling. The students were very focused on the topics that were covered and showed that they both had proficiency when doing problems. I gave both students extra practice to start trying, and I will be reviewing the extra practice in our next session. In this session, I got to see the students ability to understand the questions without my giving any input on their progress. Both students show a lot of improvement since the first time we had a session; they've both shown that they remember all of what I have taught them, and this helps the students solve questions faster and easier. I feel that both students are getting more ready for the entrance math exam.
