We reviewed probability and number sequences. We did a practice section. The student struggles in geometry, word problems and probability the most. She doesn't seem to have trouble timing herself on each question. We will continue doing practice sections and drill problems on these topics when she returns from vacation.

Today the student and I worked on her SAT math section. She understands the math and is fully capable of doing the problems. For some reason, she believes that she is in serious danger of running out of time on sections, even though I've shown her that isn't the case. The problems she is missing are due to simple mistakes and going too quickly -- I've gotten her to start circling trap words and reworking the last 2 problems per section once she finishes to confirm her answers. She is also going to plug her answers back into the problem as a second way to confirm her answers.

Today I timed and scored him on 3 sections, like the real SAT would be. He scored a 550 on the last SAT he took, and this time he scored in the 610-670 range! With several weeks together before his retake, I am hoping we can break into the 700s!

The student and I started out by looking up problems in an SAT book. He had done a practice test before I came and was already doing very well. My main purpose was to see if there was anywhere in particular that he was struggling. As we went through the material, he was able to understand and work almost all of the problems correctly. I would probably focus on Geometry a little bit more. He is doing great, and will do fantastic on the Math portions of the SAT.

This was the first session with the student. Spent time evaluating his SAT math skills by administering a set of practice problems. Has a good grasp of the fundamentals. Once he understands what type of problem he's dealing with, he solves it with good accuracy. Future sessions will concentrate on identifying math formulas, with particular attention to geometry, functions, and number properties.

The student's scores in reading and writing from last year's PSAT were quite good. We are working mainly on math. With some work, he can also improve on reading and writing. He should review the topics and example problems we cover each session, as well as study vocab.
