We've had the BEST experience with VT! Our tutor has helped my middle schoolers math grades come up from a D to an A for our 8th grader and from a D to a B for my 6th grader. I'm beyond pleased with how she connected with my boys.

The student and I got back to work in the Latin book and workbook.  We got off to a very rough start, but he did very well translating Latin to English at the end of the lesson.  He is still very caught up in the "Why" of how some of the sentences in the book are structured.  He still should work on loosening up and being more flexible.

I started this session with the student by going over his homework with him.  His homework covered conjugating certain verbs in the preterite. He appeared to have a good handle on how to conjugate these verbs by the end of his homework.  We then went over the vocabulary for the chapter he is currently working on. Over the course of the session, he showed excellent progress with the vocabulary. He committed all of the words to memory when going from Spanish to English and many of the words to memory when going from English to Spanish.

The student has a quiz on Wednesday, so we reviewed the demonstrative pronouns, the relative pronouns, and the vocabulary of Chapter 9 again.  We did all of the exercises at the end of the chapter as a "dry run" before his quiz, and I clarified some of the grammar questions that he had.

I learned way more than I ever knew about military helicopters.  We made some progress on the NHD project, and mapped out what we are going to do next.  I think next time we meet we'll start on one of those English papers as well.

The student and I were able to meet today and do a general review of Organic Chemistry. We talked about some of the most important things to focus on which include:   -knowing Sn1, Sn2, E1, E2   -knowing nucleophilicity vs. basicity   -knowing what makes a good leaving group   -knowing nucleophiles and electrophiles   -counting carbons   -knowing electron donating and withdrawing groups and how that affects acidity, basicity, and stability   -knowing a few reactions completely and being familiar and comfortable with the rest. The student continues to work hard and we were able to review his schedule until he takes the test. Knowing the material is important, but knowing how the material is tested is just as vitally important. Doing honest practice tests and analyzing them will be of great help.

Helped the student complete the world history semester review packet, answering questions from various eras in history. I helped the student complete an algebra II assignment, including systems of equations and determining whether they were consistent (did they intersect?) or inconsistent (parallel lines), and if consistent, whether they were independent (only one vertex) or dependent (same line, infinite solutions).
