I am an educator of 15+ years, primarily in English/humanities, though I occasionally dabble in math/science and such. I hold a Masters in Education specializing in secondary education, but I've worked with a wide variety of student demographics: K-12, college/university, returning students, ESL/ELL, gifted and/or reluctant learners, etc. I enjoy the challenge of stepping outside of my comfort zone in terms of teaching assignments, and I believe my passion for being in the classroom rubs off on my students. My teaching philosophy includes having a learner-centered growth mindset that takes into account students' social-emotional health and personalized learning needs. I enjoy both the in-person and virtual classroom, and am a passionate advocate of both standards-based learning and the STEAM curriculum. I believe I am an approachable, efficient, and competent teacher/tutor whom students can tell genuinely cares about their academic success and personal well-being. I look forward to acclimating myself into the Varsity Tutors culture. Nice to 'meet' you!

I am a second year student at Tufts University. Currently, I am pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Physics. While I have primarily tutored science courses in my past 2 years of experience, I am also confident in my ability to assist students with other areas such as reading comprehension, organization, writing skills, and mathematics. All of these additional areas are critical in the field of engineering and physics, and my in-depth education has provided me with the skills to assist students best in any of these areas. As a tutor who enjoys helping students learn and grow, I believe that the strongest tool to helping students develop their skills is by first allowing them to develop a passion and confidence for their goals. My tutoring style include a variety of approaches, all of which integrate each of the following and more: confidence that the student has the ability to grow, interest in the topic to help students self-motivate to learn, and genuine comprehension of subject matter over memorization.Outside of academia, I am very involved with the music community. I have been writing original music for 7 years and enjoy playing music with peers in various style bands. I also have a great love for the outdoors and spend much of my time on hikes or paddle boarding at the local lake.If you are looking for a confident and highly qualified tutor who will guarantee 100% commitment to students and their personal academic development, I hope to get in contact with you soon!

Hello, world!I am a New York City–based musician; I freelance full-time as a composer, arranger, orchestrator, pianist, vocalist, music director, etc. I have a bachelors degree in music composition and piano performance from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. Music is my life-long passion. But right alongside my love for music is my love for languages. Learning another language is much like opening a window to examine and explore another culture, often in brilliant, intimate detail. Of particular interest to me are language studies, language acquisition, and the anthropological and sociopolitical threads that are so beautifully interwoven through the use of words and expression. Besides English, I speak (to varying conversational degrees) Spanish, German, and Japanese. Living in New York City, however, provides an amazing cornucopia of so many of the world's languages and cultures, and I take every opportunity I can to make a connection with them.I'm also an avid reader, a latent (but perhaps budding) writer, a lover of games, and (as one savvy enough to recognize from my greeting above might guess) a nascent computer programmer. I'm currently enrolled in CS50x, an online version of the Intro to Computer Science course taught at Harvard and Yale, and I'm really digging it.

I am a graduate of The Brearley School and Juilliard Pre-College, as well as a current student at Carleton College where I am studying Anthropology and Archaeology. I have previous tutoring experience in both essay writing/editing and SAT verbal. The subjects I am most passionate about are History, English, Creative Writing, and Literature. I truly love everything related to history, and am constantly reading and learning about the subject on my own time. My tutoring approach is to make the sessions as helpful and comfortable for the student as possible. I strongly believe that a student's best work is done in an environment where they feel they can ask questions and learn at their own pace.
