I am most recently a graduate of New York University having received an MA in Applied Quantitative research. Previous to my graduate studies, I received a BA in Theatre and a BA in Sociology from the University of New Mexico. In the Fall of 2015 I will become a PhD candidate at the CUNY Graduate Center in Sociology. Other than tutoring, I also work as an instructor of English Language Arts as part of a weekend, after-school, and Summer program for 1st generation children in New York City. I tutor in a wide variety of subjects from Writing to Math to Social Studies. I am passionate about education because I believe it is the foundation for building a just society, and I enjoy teaching and learning from people of all ages from elementary to college-age. I especially enjoy preparing students for standardized testing, working to make a mandatory and unpleasant experience into something that can bring them pride and enjoyment. When not teaching and studying, my hobbies include working in Theatre doing everything from acting to set building to grant-writing.

I am a junior at UNC Chapel Hill double majoring in Computer Science and Statistics & Analytics. I thoroughly enjoy tutoring and teaching, and have had experience in doing so through my past jobs as a math/reading tutor at Kumon, a violin teacher at summer camps, as well as a camp counselor at an elementary school. I love working with different types of people and getting to know their learning styles so that they can be the most successful!

I received an undergraduate degree in Psychology with a focus in Neuroscience from Hunter College in Manhattan, New York. After college I went to medical school and received an MD from SUNY Upstate in New York. My favorite subjects to tutor are neuroscience, neurophysiology (I love the brain!), biology, and anything biology related. I worked as a Teaching Assistant in college, and also served as a teaching assistant during medical school, as well as taught medical students during residency. My teaching philosophy is really to identify each individual student's learning style and try to tailor my approach to that. Everyone learns differently, so I think it's best to avoid a one size fits all approach. I have been a student for most of my life! So I have had a lot of exposure to teachers and tutors with different styles and remembered what I liked about them, what worked, and what didn't. I think the best tutors and teachers that I have had were able to communicate clearly, adapt to their students and adjust their styles, and also had a passion for their subject that was infectious. I only tutor subjects that I love. Because if I'm bored by an area or not enthusiastic, how can I expect my students to be?Outside of academics, I like to watch movies (especially sci/fi fantasy), play video games, read, walk my dog, and travel.

I recently graduated from Babson College with a bachelor's in Science. I was born in the Dominican Republic. I moved to the United States when I was eight years. Throughout my education career, I worked in a variety of different fields. The one thing that remained the same for me, was my mission to help others.I enjoy helping others because seeing them happy, makes me happy. In high school, I decided to run my own tutoring services, where I helped middle schoolers with their language levels, both English and Spanish. I also tutored in the math field. When it came to Algebra, I also frequently tutored my high school friends. One efficient strategy that worked for me was having the person I tutored, tutor me back. Having them teach me how to solve a problem, or how to pronounce or say something correctly, showed me if they learned something, or were still confused.I consider myself to be an outgoing person. Someone who likes to meet new people. I also liked solving problems. Combining these two, was where my passion for teaching began. When I was younger, I wanted to be a math teacher. I started my journey while in high school, I took my first anatomy and physiology class and discovered that I wanted a career that would allow me to work with the human body. I was mostly interested in dentistry and orthodontics until I hurt my back in an offseason football workout. After I went to my Chiropractor I realized the importance of the structure of the spine and the function of the central nervous system. While in college I was named captain of our rugby team and enjoyed helping other learn and work together. I was a teacher assistant for an anatomy and physiology class during my time at Fairfield University. I continued my passion of helping others while at Palmer College of Chiropractic where I tutored the first quarter students in general anatomy where I aided them in understanding the anatomy with the use of cadavers. A short while later I was named the president of a chiropractic technique club called: Gonstead Technique. I plan on using my experience and knowledge to help others reach their goals and full potential.
