I recently left my post as a graduate student and researcher at Stanford University to pursue a career in medicine. My educational journey has been a long one, but I've always loved learning and that love has kept me in school (whether for better or worse :P) for more years than I can count. Though I don't plan on being a student forever, the time that I've spent preparing for college, graduate school, and now medical school has reminded me of how enabling a strong academic record can be.I've been tutoring since I was in high school and have worked with students at every level of education. I specialize in teaching from a very fundamental perspective and in building concepts from the ground up but also enjoy helping students to "just get done" with their homework. Though I'm particularly fond of math and science, I can provide assistance in almost any subject (from Latin to world geography to art history), and can also help in preparing students for standardized tests such as the SAT, GRE, and MCAT.Above all though, my approach to tutoring is simply about having fun and inspiring students to do their best. Assignments and tests are really just chances for students to demonstrate how much they already know, and allowing each student to shine at his or her brightest is what tutoring is all about.

I am a graduate of University of Phoenix with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. I am also an alum of University of Northern Colorado. As I was finishing my degree, I was working full-time in the financial industries. Upon completion of my degree I decided to pursue my passion of teaching and have not looked back. I received my teaching license through an alternative license program through Metro State. As a teacher of four years, I have had the opportunity to work with students from Kindergarten up to 6th grade (where I currently teach Math). A number of years back I also lived and taught in Mexico for two years.I am currently only tutoring math (for elementary and middle school aged students). I'm focused on math because of the importance it has in our daily lives. Aside from the ability to read, I don't think there is a skill that is in greater demand. That being said, I recognize that there are many aspects of Math that can be confusing. I like to employ chants and hand movements to help remember the vocabulary and methods necessary to be successful in Math.Outside of the classroom, I love spending time with my family (wife, 4 kids, and a dog!). When I'm taking some time to myself, I can either be found reading a good book (I love most genres but hold a special place for Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and Dystopian books. or watching some sports on TV (Go Broncos!). I do enjoy to travel when funds and time allow. But mostly my time is spent ensuring that I'm helping my students be as successful as they can. I love tutoring because it helps me reach out and impact more student lives than I normally am able to.

I was born in Germany and lived there for 11 years of my life. The rest of my life I have lived in the UK, where my English language skills come from.

My motivations for becoming a tutor stem from the relationships I built with educators during my time as a student. It is because of the support I received from my teachers, professors, and tutors that I have such a strong passion for academia. I aspire to provide those whom I tutor with a similar sense of enthusiasm for learning.I am a graduate of Clark University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Economics, and I have also taken coursework in various disciplines of mathematics and business. During college, I gained experience tutoring in two primary ways. First, I was the teaching assistant for one of Clark's Linear Algebra courses. As the teaching assistant, I held office hours for the students enrolled in the course, during which they could come to me with any questions related to the lectures, homework, or exams. I also have experience teaching middle school students through the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program in the Worcester Public School system. While participating in the AVID program, I tutored a variety of subjects including Biology, History, English, Algebra, and Geometry. While I have experience in a broad range of subjects, I am particularly passionate about the fields of Mathematics and Economics.

Ankit graduated from Georgetown University School of Foreign Service with a degree in International Political Economy and is currently in his first year at Washington University School of Law. In high school, he was a state champion in debate and got 5's on 8 of his AP exams. Ankit has worked for two US Congressmen and an international economics think tank in India. After law school he will be attending Utrecht University in the Netherlands for his LL.M. and hopes to practice international law.Ankit is an avid fan of Tottenham Hotspur, the NY Giants and Georgetown Hoyas. He also loves standup comedy and has performed at the DC Improv. In addition to his academic tutoring, he was a tennis instructor at Raritan Valley Country Club.

I am a software engineer at a small technology company and volunteer teaching AP Computer Science at a local high school. I am passionate about tutoring in computer science and math to help people understand the beauty in the two fields. When tutoring, I find that it is important to engage the student by helping them understand the base of the problem and how to break it down into manageable sections. After this, it is important to figure out how to solve each part of the problem. By the end of my sessions, I hope that my students understand the basics of how we approached and conquered the problem, enabling them to do the same in the future without assistance. In my free time, I spend time visiting museums, going out to eat, and painting watercolor.

Students should be involved in planning and furthering their own learning to help them stay motivated and to feel empowered to keep learning. I also focus on study skills and work habits to help students learn independently and will even help them to find the language to advocate for themselves and their own learning in school.I graduated from college with high honors and have near-perfect exam scores on the PRAXIS exam despite having dyslexia. Dyslexia is an umbrella term for many types of symbol-ordering differences within the brain and I am happy to help others navigate taking control of their reading and test taking skills.

My students actively sought out my help, and I wanted to live up to my role as an authority in my field.I like to set an agenda for each student in our sessions in order to create a structure in which they could relax and organize their thoughts. I spent the first two to three minutes listening to them talk about their day and their interests and hobbies to connect with them as a person and find out what learning style might fit them best. For example, I notice that visual learners would pay attention to my hand movements and verbal learners sometimes write down everything that I say. I then review laws and concepts that are fundamental to understanding chemistry and frequently relate them to popular topics such as sports, weather, and family.I plan let the students dictate the pace for the last half hour of each session. I ask a few questions to confirm that they understand what we are going over, but for the most part, my hope is for them to propose and answer their own questions. I know that every student has the scientific skills to recognize a pattern, relate the concept to something they know, and use logic, and a successful session entails that the student feels the same way.
