Los Angeles, CA Differential Equations tutoring
Today's session with the student went well. We worked on reviewing what he missed on his exam that he took on Thursday. The subjects were quadratics and then we moved on to getting him ahead of his class and worked on graphs; histograms, bar graphs, linear graphs. I saw his test grade. He has made an incredible improvement and I can see the confidence growing in him. He no longer is struggling as much with remembering the math problems. No specific problems but I am introducing this to him gradually and he said that he would review the topics we covered.

Los Angeles, CA Differential Equations tutoring
The student and I began the session by covering the graphs of sine and cosine functions. We talked about the basic form of a sine and cosine graph (y=c+asinbx or y=c+ acosbx) and discussed what the different variables (c, a, b) mean in the equation. We then practiced graphing these functions, given the equation. We also practiced writing the equation, given the graph. At first, it was difficult for her to recognize the difference between a sine and cosine graph and to figure out the values for a, b, and c in the equation, but after some practice she became much more comfortable with these kinds of problems. Next, we talked about the graphs of the other trig functions (tan, cot, csc, sec). They haven't covered the graphs of these functions in her class yet, so we just briefly introduced what they look like and how to graph them. Next, we worked on chemistry. We covered the concept of concentration and the various ways of representing concentration. We defined parts per million (ppm), molarity (mols/L), percent by mass, percent by volume, and g/L. We then went through practice problems from her class that apply these concepts. She grasped these concepts well and did the problems correctly.
