Tutoring review by Ashlie in Somerdale, NJ
The student and I reviewed inequalities and linear equations (particularly how to find the y-intercept). She understood how to solve the equations. We also reviewed the more advanced problems involving many steps, as well as the y-intercept is and how to find it when given points on a graph. She seemed to have understood by the end of the session. I left her with a few inequality problems, involving negatives and fractions, to complete. I think this practice will help her feel work through complex problems more accurately.

We had some big wins going over problems that we worked on a few weeks ago. She knew how to do them all with very few mistakes. We went over how to solve integrals involving division. I gave her a few videos to study with over the next week. We are mainly working on preparing for her test next Tuesday. We also went over related rates and optimization.

Tutoring review by Aunaly in Somerdale, NJ
The student worked through his worksheet on segment addition. The basic problems asked him to solve for an unknown length given information about the total length of the segment and the length of a smaller section of the full segment. The more difficult problems involved solving first for x and then for the length of the segment. A couple required him to add another variable, y, find two equations, and then solve the system of equations. Then we moved on to his biology homework. He was asked to discuss whether the Viking experiments on soil samples from Mars suggested life or not. We talked about what makes up life and the definition of life such as able to reproduce itself, move, and complete respiration. We discussed why viruses are not life.

Tutoring review by James in Somerdale, NJ
We started the session with a quiz on fraction operations and the student got a perfect score. I am so proud of his progress with fractions; he has vastly improved from when we first started. Then, we did some practice problems on solving equations. He does well on the simple equations, but he had more difficulty once we started on equations that have fractions in them. As such, we reviewed the concept of solving these equations and learning the method of how to do them. After some more practice, he seemed to get the concept. In addition, we worked on some practice problems involving correct operations. We reviewed that a number squared is just that number times itself. Overall, he has a good understanding of the rules of operations As long as he stays calm and does not rush, he does very well with math. For next session, we will start off with more practice problems on solving equations.
