Tutoring review by Jacqueline in Newman Lake, WA
The homework was on a new concept he started in class today, Geometry. He had a work sheet on Lines, Rays, and Angles. We reviewed and corrected as he had to identify and draw points, line segments, rays, and types of angles. I expanded on the concept by teaching that these Lines, Line Segments, and Rays are sometimes described by the relationship they have to other lines, line segments, and rays. Then he completed a practice worksheet to identify and name Parallel Lines, Perpendicular Lines, Perpendicular Rays, a Line Segment, a Ray, a Point, and Lines, scoring 85%. His attitude was good; he was focused and caught on easily to the new material.

Today, we worked on the student's homework that's due tomorrow. She is getting a lot more geometry work, consisting of identifying parallelograms, trapezoids, rhombuses, etc. In addition, we worked on triangle identification (scalene, isosceles, and equilateral), as well as using the distance formula to determine what type of triangle it was from a graph. In addition, we worked on completing problems that gave a center and point on the circle and had the student determine if a specific point was on that circle or not.

The student passed her first graded test with a satisfactory score. Today we covered all sections from the textbook required for the next test. The approach used was more conceptual than mathematical, which is the same approach used by her instructor in class. The student responded well to the presentation of the new topics, and I think she will be able to comprehend most or all of the next class lecture content.

Tutoring review by Lindsey in Newman Lake, WA
Today we reviewed the changes the student made to the introduction and literature review of his research proposal. The introduction has become much clearer and flows well with the revisions. The literature review has been rearranged to follow directly after the introduction and makes the paper much more coherent overall with the changes. We discussed additional revisions that should be made to the method section and suggestions for how to structure this section. He is going to work on new revisions from comments I am sending him and from our conversation today regarding the method section. We will meet again once he has another draft to review the changes he has made and discuss formatting and references.
