As a medical student who has already cleared both USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK, Jiatian knows the MCAT's content landscape from the other side — which biochemistry pathways, physics concepts, and psychology theories actually matter most and how the exam tests them. She teaches a question-attack strategy for CARS and the science sections that trains students to extract key data from dense passages before even looking at answer choices. Her Rice University science background and firsthand board exam experience mean she can connect MCAT topics to the bigger picture of what medical schools expect.

Ning earned her Doctor of Medicine degree, which means she didn't just study MCAT content — she applied it through years of medical training. She breaks down each section's strategy differently, from amino acid structure questions in the Biological Foundations section to passage-based reasoning in CARS, treating the exam as four distinct challenges rather than one monolithic test. Rated 4.9 by students.
As an incoming medical student (starting 2026) and a graduate in Biological Sciences from SUNY Binghamton, I utilize a unique student-focused approach to tutoring. With over two years of experience in premed subjects (including MCAT topics) ranging from introductory biology to organic chemistry I specialize in breaking down complex topics into manageable concepts. My teaching philosophy is built on fostering a supportive environment where I adapt to each student's learning style, ensuring they not only achieve their academic goals but also develop a deeper appreciation for the material.
I am a graduate of Emory University, where I received my Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology with a minor in Dance and Movement Studies. Throughout college, I have trained extensively tutoring students of various ages across many subjects. As an "Emory Reads" tutor for four years, I helped alleviate education inequality by providing weekly tutoring to students in Atlanta's lowest performing elementary schools to enhance reading comprehension and mathematics skills. I worked with the schools to transition engaged learning to an online format. I am a firm proponent of education, and am committed to providing my students with the best learning experience achievable. I am passionate about helping struggling students face the challenges of early education, and help them build a solid foundation for the future. I also served several semesters working with high school and college-age students. As a Teaching Assistant for college-level physics, I developed a sincere bond with my students as I strived to help them achieve there academic goals. I also worked as a peer-editor for papers and personal statements, as appointed by my professors who recognized my strong writing skills. For three years, I tutored and mentored high school students who were passionate about pursuing the sciences in college. I helped them through their AP coursework, preparing for standardized tests, and the college application process. I have worked with students to get into Ivy League universities, Berkeley, UCLA, NYU, and more. I am looking forward to being able to helping every student reach their personal potential, and sharing the joy of eventual success!
As a passionate tutor with a Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience and Psychology from Indiana University. For the past 3 years, I have been working as an MCAT tutor. I have over 2 years of experience helping students excel in subjects such as Anatomy & Physiology, AP Biology, and Psychology. My approach centers on fostering a supportive learning environment where students feel empowered to ask questions and engage deeply with the material. I believe that understanding the 'why' behind concepts is crucial for long-term retention, so I strive to connect lessons to real-world applications. I am motivated by witnessing my students' growth and confidence, particularly as they navigate the challenges of college applications and advanced coursework. In my free time, I enjoy reading about the latest developments in neuroscience, which further enriches my teaching and keeps me engaged with the subject matter.
Scoring well on the MCAT requires more than content mastery — it demands the ability to synthesize biology, chemistry, physics, psychology, and critical reading under extreme time pressure. Miya's microbiology and immunology background covers the science sections deeply, and her experience tutoring English and reading gives her a practical edge when coaching the CARS section. She builds study plans around each student's weakest content areas and drills passage-based reasoning from day one.
I'm not tutoring or buried in my textbooks, you will either find me rock climbing at the Triangle Rock Club, playing Ultimate Frisbee, working on my car, or enjoying the great outdoors (beaches, mountains, forests--you name it, I love it). On rainy weekends I enjoy tinkering with computers and old electronics, playing Pokemon, or picking at my guitar.
I am an interdisciplinary educator with an Ed.M. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a B.A. from Dartmouth College. My background is primarily in integrated arts learning and museum education and I specialize in visual arts, history and art history, and object-based learning. In all subjects, I take a creative, inquiry-based and learner-centered approach, designing opportunities for each unique individual to meet their learning goals.
I am a recent graduate from a masters program in biostatistics at Columbia University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in biological sciences, with a focus in neurobiology at Northwestern University. In August, I will be starting a doctoral program in biostatistics at NYU. I was a teaching assistant at Columbia University in my department and also have tutored graduate students and undergraduates privately as well. My primary areas of tutoring are math and statistics coursework in addition to math sections on standardized tests such as the GRE and GMAT. I am very passionate about helping students feel more confident and excited about math. In my spare time, I enjoy running, playing piano, and spending time with friends and family.
I am a graduate of Wesleyan University, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with High Honors. With eight years of experience working in education, I've tutored students in math, science, history, and English, as well as helped students prepare for standardized tests. I've guided adults towards passing the US Citizenship Exam and taught English in India, where I lived for six months. Whenever I work with a student I personalize the lessons to fit their particular learning style, since I know every student is unique and having the right fit can make all the difference in making learning fun and effective. My strengths are tutoring the social sciences and humanities, as well as making math and standardized tests approachable to students that normally don't like those subjects. In my spare time I like traveling, spending time in the outdoors (climbing & backpacking), meditation, and playing soccer. Next fall I will be beginning my PhD in Education at Harvard University.
I am a junior Mechanical Engineering major at Yale, and I hope to become a Naval Aviator after college. I am also a varsity sailor, and enjoy playing music with friends when I can get some free time. I have been tutoring my fellow students throughout my entire academic career, and I would best describe my tutoring style as one that adapts to each students' needs. For example, I have always tried to frame questions in a different way so that the student can better understand the question. Some students need visual representations of numbers and systems to understand them, and others benefit more by understanding the concepts behind each formula. I prefer to tutor in math and physics, and especially with real world application problems. I hope to help students improve their standardized test scores and their understanding of the math and sciences so that they can achieve their academic goals!
I am a rising sophomore at Harvard College and am about to declare as a Mechanical Engineering concentrator, working towards a Bachelor of Science degree. I've always enjoyed sharing my knowledge with my peers and those around me and have done so in both formal and informal settings. I've been a tutor for both Math and Spanish programs in high school and enjoyed the strides I made with students. I am willing to tutor any subject I have a background in, but am strong in mathematics, the sciences, Spanish, history, writing, and ACT prep. I enjoy teaching mathematics most due to the joy I can see in children once they master a topic and can answer even pointed questions meant to stump them, and maybe even put their knowledge to real world use. As a tutor, I like to give a strong foundation to orient my student, and then gradually grant them more freedom and independence until they can feel themselves grasp the concept, pointing out pitfalls or common errors along the way; teachers who used these methods on me always left the most lasting impressions. Outside of my studies, I really enjoy listening to music, both old favorites and new interests, reading classics, and gaming/playing basketball with my friends.

Frequently Asked Questions
Your first session typically starts with a diagnostic assessment to identify your strengths and weaknesses across the four MCAT sections: Chemical and Physical Foundations, Biological and Biochemical Foundations, Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations, and Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills (CARS). Based on this assessment, a tutor will work with you to create a personalized study plan that targets your specific needs, discusses your timeline for taking the exam, and establishes realistic score improvement goals. This foundation ensures every session that follows is strategically focused on your biggest opportunities for growth.
Score improvement varies based on your starting point, study consistency, and how you apply feedback from tutoring sessions. Many students see meaningful gains—typically 3-8 points—when they work with a tutor who helps them identify weak content areas, master test-taking strategies, and practice under timed conditions. The most significant improvements come from combining personalized instruction with consistent practice tests and strategic review between sessions. Your tutor can give you a more specific projection after evaluating your diagnostic performance and learning pace.
CARS is challenging because it requires not just reading comprehension, but the ability to analyze arguments, identify assumptions, and answer nuanced questions under strict time pressure—skills that differ significantly from traditional science study. A tutor can teach you systematic strategies for breaking down complex passages, recognizing question types, and managing the 90-minute section within the 10-minute-per-passage window. They'll also help you identify whether your struggles stem from reading speed, comprehension, or reasoning, so you can focus practice where it matters most.
Pacing is one of the biggest challenges on the MCAT, and tutors address it by teaching you section-specific timing strategies, helping you practice timed passages and question sets, and analyzing where you lose time during practice tests. A tutor will help you identify whether you're spending too long on difficult questions, rushing through easier ones, or struggling with passage comprehension speed. By working through timed drills and full-length practice tests with expert feedback, you'll develop a sustainable pace that maximizes both accuracy and completion.
Most MCAT prep involves 8-12 full-length practice tests taken over your study period, with the official AAMC materials being the gold standard since they mirror actual test format and difficulty. Rather than just taking tests and moving on, the real learning happens in review—analyzing every wrong answer, understanding why you missed it, and identifying patterns in your mistakes. A tutor helps you extract maximum value from each practice test by guiding your review process, connecting mistakes to underlying content gaps or strategy issues, and adjusting your study plan based on trends they observe across multiple tests.
The answer is both, but the balance depends on where you are in your prep. Early on, you need solid content knowledge across biochemistry, organic chemistry, physics, biology, psychology, and sociology—gaps here will hurt you regardless of strategy. However, many students plateau because they haven't mastered test-specific strategies like eliminating wrong answers, managing anxiety, and adapting their approach to different question types. A tutor helps you identify which is your limiting factor and allocates your study time accordingly, ensuring you're not wasting effort on content you already know while neglecting the strategic skills that separate competitive scores.
Test anxiety often stems from uncertainty about what to expect or feeling unprepared for the exam's demands. Tutoring builds confidence through familiarity—practicing with real AAMC materials, taking full-length tests under actual testing conditions, and repeatedly experiencing success with challenging questions. A tutor also helps you develop a pre-exam routine, manage stress during practice sessions, and reframe mistakes as learning opportunities rather than failures. By the time test day arrives, you've essentially practiced the experience dozens of times, which significantly reduces anxiety and helps you perform closer to your actual ability.
Look for tutors with strong MCAT scores (typically 510+), ideally those who have recently taken the exam or regularly update their knowledge of test changes. Experience matters—tutors who have worked with multiple students and understand common pitfalls can guide you more effectively. Beyond credentials, you want someone who can explain complex concepts clearly, adapt to your learning style, and provide strategic feedback on practice tests. Varsity Tutors connects you with expert MCAT tutors in Wichita who meet these standards and can provide personalized instruction tailored to your goals and timeline.
