Long Beach Tutoring FAQ

How much does Varsity Tutors cost for students in Long Beach?

The cost that you will pay for working with a tutor for students in Long Beach can vary. Our Educational Directors will match you with a tutor who has the knowledge that you need, and the level of experience required may affect the rate you will pay.

For example, you might pay a different rate for a tutor who is helping a student with basic reading and writing fundamentals than you would for a private teacher who is helping a university student study advanced science concepts. Either way, a tutor can help you deepen your understanding of any topic or subject that you are studying.

Which tutoring subjects does Varsity Tutors offer for students in Long Beach?

We can set you up with a knowledgeable tutor no matter what subject you are studying. You might be looking for an instructor to help your Servite High School student with math.

Maybe you are looking for an instructor to help with test prep for the ACT, LSAT, or another exam. Either way, we've got you covered. We can even find a tutor for students in Long Beach who are interested in developing a new skill or learning about another topic for professional or recreational reasons. No matter which subject you are learning, your instructor will offer individualized feedback with each lesson.

Why choose Varsity Tutors for tutoring in Long Beach?

Finding the right tutor on your own can be difficult and time-consuming. When you look for an instructor, you need to consider a variety of different factors ranging from experience level to availability.

We will do the heavy lifting for you by searching our large database of tutors for someone who has the knowledge that you require. The instructor can then work with you to put together a plan that will allow you to work more effectively towards academic goals. They can use their knowledge and experience to have detailed conversations with you about the topics that you are interested in learning about.

If you are serious about studying a certain subject, 1-on-1 tutoring can help you achieve a more thorough understanding of key topics. Working with an instructor supports in-class learning because you are spending time outside of class taking a closer look at key topics at your own pace. Aside from helping students learn the material, tutors can also improve their attitude toward learning in general, which can help them reach for their goals in other subjects as well.

Don't hesitate to get in touch with us for quality tutoring for students in Long Beach. Our Educational Directors are ready to discuss what it is you are looking for in an instructor and then find the ideal fit for you. At Varsity Tutors, we are excited to match students of all ages and interests with the right instructor to help them expand their knowledge.

Tutoring review by Stacey in Long Beach, CA
The student worked on math with in and out boxes, addition, subtraction and Venn diagrams. He worked on short vowels, reading and comprehension. He is making improvement in reading and math. If a passage is difficult, it seems to help for him to read the passage twice. He also does better when I ask him to read louder and to emphasize when a sentence ends.

The student and I worked on strategies for the social sciences and reading comprehension sections (reading for trajectory and point-of-view; eliminating answer choices based on tone; identifying literary techniques in poems; scanning answer choices for verbs). We had an introductory lesson on trigonometry, and I assigned trigonometry reading in our Algebra/Trig book. We also discussed how to identify trends in a data set using mean, median, and mode.

The student and I spent most of today working on her "how things work" physics project on refrigerators. Today we consolidated information, made and practiced her presentation, and made her bibliography. In the last half hour, we went through her review for her Pre-Calculus test tomorrow, which covered arithmetic and geometric sequences and sums as well as calculating probability, combinations/permutations, independent/dependent events, and "and vs. or" in probabilities.

The student and I introduced ourselves to one another, and then we visited with the parents to set goals.  We set a 3 week goal to accomplish an adequate grade in this class and a 6 week goal to get him independent from my assistance.  The three week goal is aggressive; he hopes to post an A in his English class.  I expect he has the ability to achieve the goal. The 6 week goal is also aggressive.  He will need the time management skills we will discuss to accomplish success as an anesthesiologist.

Tutoring review by Lee in Long Beach, CA
We went over an acid-base titration lab, and we figured out the teacher forgot a key piece of information in order to  complete the questions.  We then moved onto math and did what we could with what he didn't understand.  I asked him if he was turning in all of his homework and he said yes.  In the coming weeks I will need to be a lot more diligent and forceful in assuring that he is actually turning his homework in.  (90% on tests, 50% on homework is making his grade a C-)
